Bad Credit? Can’t Get a Credit Card? Yes You Can!

Not having credit is no the end of the world.Waiting doesn’t get the job done.  There are some actions you can take to get you back to a good credit standing.

Nothing grabs your attention more than a deteriorating credit score.Does bad credit keep you from getting a credit card at a decent rate.  Most people want to pay their bills, and remain in good credit standing.Your past credit situations may be the reason credit card companies won’t give you approval for a traditional card.So how do you avoid this problem.

There are a few companies out there that understand your situation, and want to help you to obtain a better credit rating. These are the companies that offer secured credit cards.  A secured credit card is a card that you make a deposit to which determines your credit limit.  You can use your card just like any credit card, but your purchases are limited to your deposited amount, (similar to a debit card).Be sure the credit card company reports these secured cards to the credit bureaus. If they don’t report then you aren’t making any ground to improve your scores. In a nutshell, issuers of secured credit cards sends reports to major credit reporting agencies indicating that you are paying off your debits.

This is how these cards work.  On the surface it works just like a debit card.Let’s say you start with a $200 deposit to your secured credit card.So then you go to the store and make a $20 purchase.  Your account balance is almost immediately reduced by $20 to $180.  The key to these cards is when the credit card company goes to report your information to the major credit reporting agencies, (the better secured card companies will report monthly).  In simplified terms, the credit card company will tell the reporting agency that you made a $20 purchase on your credit card, and it was paid. The reporting agency takes into account that you are making good on your charges. This demonstrates that you are a good borrower.Reporting agencies see that you are less of a risk and bump up your credit score.  After time you become more appealing to other credit card companies and you will more readily be accepted for traditional credit cards.

Improving your credit is not a quick and easy task. This is one action you can take on your own.Severely damaged credit may not be fixed with a secured credit card, but it is an option.Don’t expect your credit score to immediately sky rocket. While this does take time, you cannot passively hope things will get better.

Reading and understanding the terms and conditions is vital when applying for a credit card.
