If you have enough for an opening deposit, you do not need a job to open a checking account.

Good question about whether a savings account would work or not. Technically it should work. You can provide the account number and routing information, so you would have all the info they need.

To verify your account, they (PayPal) make two small deposits to the account being linked (under 15 cents each, roughly). Once you see those deposits in your account (you get to keep those!) you log on to PayPal and give them the date and amounts of the deposits as confirmation that it all worked.
