So I applied to this university that I saw on television for graphic designing and they accepted me. They said they loved my art portfolio and told me I would have almost no competition. It turns out this was true- I got accepted a week or two after applying.

A few weeks ago I told them to wait for my call regarding setting up financial aid, since I was looking at other universities (I did not tell them I was searching around, I just asked them to hold off on it). They agreed to wait for my call. However, A week later, I began being almost harrassed with messages in my voicemail about going to set up financial aid…I was getting one or two messages per day except on weekends. I called them and asked for them to lay off a bit, and they appologised and agreed…

Anyway, they called one more time today and left a rather disturbing message, in a very strict tone of voice:

“Sir, if you want to attend the college, you must call us back *today* and make an appointment for financial aid. If you fail to do so, we cannot guarantee your spot at the school. No questions.”

I called and told them I would stop by on Friday. However, my parents were angry about this. Mom wanted to call the college herself, but I told her not to, since I am an adult and I should be the one to handle my own problems.

So now I feel like they suckered me over, and now I really dont want to go to that school. I love art and I want to go into graphic designing, but not at that school…they offer *1* drawing class, being the only traditional art class, and the rest for the program are rather generic. On top of that, the school is very expensive, and there have been rumors that employers often skip job candidates who graduate from that college because of the lack of reputation.

So what do I do? They are expecting me in on Friday and I really dont want to pay them a visit. I am terrible with confrontations and I am afraid I would be in one if I were to call them and tell them “good bye”.

Wow simply go there and tell them you have no interest in attending. Just as a general rule of thumb, if you see a commercial for a “college” on TV then you should NOT attend it. It sounds like a for-profit school such as ITT-Tech where they just care about your money and not about your actual education (The fact that they said you would have no competition should have thrown up a red flag.) Schools like these are very disrespected and employers will throw out resumes with these type of schools on them, again the fact that there is no competition and they let everyone in leads employers to pretty much label everyone who attends there as stupid. If you somehow find a entry level job with their “degree” you will not get paid nearly enough to actually pay back your loans. Do the smart thing and go to a community college where it will be SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper and you can actually transfer these credits to a real school.
