Is the tip jar at Dunkin’ Donuts really necessary?

Question by Butane in My Veins: Is the tip jar at Dunkin’ Donuts really necessary?
Half the time the employees screw up my order. Also, why should I have to tip a counter person? It makes no sense at all. It’s not like they are doing the same work that a waitress does. They aren’t busting their humps.

I won’t ever contribute anything to jars labled “tips” or the like. In my opinion, a tip jar is the equivalent to someone standing on a street corner begging for money.

WoW Michael have you ever worked a job like that before?
They deserve more than minimum wage and that is about what they get. I mean look at the uniforms?
What’s a small tip to you?
To some one working a job like that it is more than you think.

    1. I don’t think the money goes to the counter person, but to everyone.

    2. I really think only the people who are like preparing the food or are waitresses deserve the money because they are the ones actually working hard. Putting on a smile and saying you owe us “this much” isn’t very hard.

    3. well. a tip jar is like a i’m impressed with your service.
if you don’t like the counter person, make sure the tip goes to the person that worked their butt off for you.
you can do that by like, leaving it on your table.
and the front people. idk. its very difficult punching in numbers and taking money?

    4. I don’t think they deserve it. What did they do other than heat up some coffee or put some doughnuts in a bag.

    5. I work at Dunkin Donuts and Baskin Robins (combined), and i just want to say our jars do not say you have to tip. And for the comment that we aren’t “busting our humps” obviously you have never worked at any kind of place like this. Working here is hard, i have bruises all over my arms and legs from working there. Also just so you know most people that tip our tip jars are “usuall’s” you know people that walk in and we have their coffee at the counter before they even order. I’m sorry maybe your store is not as great as ours, but we do work our humps.

And the tips are split between everyone working that night, so in the end i usually bring about 3 dollars home in tips and that is on a good day.
